What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are noninvasive cosmetic treatments that remove the upper, damaged layers of skin off the surface of your face or other areas of the body.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels focus on treatment of the epidermal layers of the skin. The epidermal layers are the outermost layers of the skin, also called the epidermis, which has 5 layers and protects the skin from the outside world. It is also the thinnest layer of the skin.
Applying chemical peels to the epidermal layers of the skin performs the central actions of increasing cellular turnover and shedding dead skin cells to reveal a brighter and healthier complexion. Chemical peels are referenced by how deeply they penetrate the skin. An introductory or superficial level peel is typically associated with minimal flaking, in contrast to deeper peels, which can allow for significant shedding of the skin that last up to 14 days.
A chemical peel treatment is a relatively quick process. It involves applying the solution to the face or problem areas during which you may experience some discomfort or irritation for a couple of minutes when the solution is applied to your skin, but it will quickly subside after treating the area with a neutralizing solution to stop the activation process.
The level of peel we offer is dependent on your skin type, skin issues or skin conditions.
Superficial peels remove your uppermost layer of skin only and offer an instant result, with little to no shedding and no downtime. It is the perfect treatment in the lead-up to a special occasion, ideally performed 3 - 4 days before to reveal a brighter, softer, smoother, and more hydrated appearance.
Medium peels reaches the middle layer of your skin and are recommended for those concerned with fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, photodamage, and lackluster skin. Also, depending on your skin condition, there can be initial sensitivity and redness but these resolve within a few days of treatment.
Deep peels aggressively reaches the deep layers for dramatic results. They are offered by doctor and recommended for clients serious about ‘turning’ back the years and revealing a more youthful complexion.
